VICTORY 911 Bill is the LAW

Victory!!  9-1-1 Bill To Restore the public’s safety and Collective Bargaining Rights was signed into law by the Governor of Puerto Rico

April 6, 2020

After two intensive years of lobbying and solidarity from members of CWA Local 3010, the Governor of Puerto Rico has signed bipartisan legislation to protect the public's 9-1-1 funds and restore collective bargaining rights for CWA members which have been suspended since 2017.

This 911 Bill was courageously created by CWA Local 3010 in response to a funding crisis in the 9-1-1 system.  This 911 crisis has directly led to increased 911 response times and placed countless lives and property in danger for all who reside in or visit Puerto Rico.

This groundbreaking Law 32-2020 will guarantee that 9-1-1 centers in Puerto Rico are properly funded and collective bargaining rights are restored for our members.

"CWA is proud of this achievement. Since 2017, our 9-1-1 employees have been victims of this terrible legislation approved by the current administration which allowed cuts to all benefits of our collective bargaining agreement and allows the government to use 9-1-1 funds in matters not related to emergency calls. This law will restore collective bargaining rights and wages, while making sure that 9-1-1 funds will be used exclusively to handle emergency calls, in accordance with federal law and regulations," said Aramis Cruz, CWA Local 3010 President.

The 911 Law (32-2020) was signed by the Governor of Puerto Rico Wanda Vazquez on March 31 2020.
